Waypoint Harp & Guitar Workshop 2026

Location: 577 Western Avenue, Westfield MA 01086

Dates: June 22nd - 26th, 2026

Time: 9am - 5pm daily

Join our talented faculty from acclaimed universities for a week of musical instruction! We offer an array of musical opportunities, including large ensemble, chamber groups, and group lessons. Masterclasses will also be presented by professionals from the music community. 

 

All students are welcome from grades 7-12, including graduating seniors.

Registration:

3. Look for the information packet (sent after registration).

Costs:

  • Early Bird (available until March 2nd, 2026)

    • Overnight: $900 per student.

    • Commuter: $500 per student.

  • General:

    • Overnight: $975 per student.​
    • Commuter: $575 per student.
  • Meals are included for all overnight students and are optional for commuter students. Please indicate your student's preferences on their registration form.

Meet the personnel involved in our harp workshop:

Lead Harp Instructor

Mae Cooke

Mae Cooke is a New England based pedal harpist. They are the harp professor at Westfield State University, and they teach private lessons and harp ensemble classes at both the Hartt School Community Division and at the Community Music School of Springfield. They are pursuing a Masters of Music in harp Performance at the Hartt School of Music and graduated in 2023 from Eastman School of Music with their Bachelors of Music in Harp Performance and Bachelors of the Arts with Studio Art.

Harp Instructor

Sunshine Quan

Chinese-Canadian harpist Sunshine Quan currently resides in Rochester NY, where she is pursuing a DMA degree in Harp Performance at the Eastman School of Music under the tutelage of Professor Kathleen Bride.
Since she arrived in the United States in 2021, Sunshine has been extensively involved in the various ensembles in Rochester and surrounding regions, regular appearances include the Rochester Philharmonic, The Syracuse Orchestra, Binghamton Philharmonic, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Fenimore Chamber Orchestra, New York State Ballet, and beyond. She has attained fellowships at the National Orchestral Institute and Mostly Modern Festival in the past summers. Her musical journey has brought her across the world, where she gave solo and chamber recitals in North America and China, and toured Spain with the Toronto Youth Wind Orchestra. Winner of the 2024 American Harp Society’s Grandjany Memorial Competition, Sunshine was also National Gold Medalist for her ARCT performance recital at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto, ON) in 2021.

A passionate advocate for new music, Sunshine has played with Eastman Musica Nova and OSSIA New Music since 2021, and she composes and arranges for solo harp and harp ensemble. She served as a Board Member of OSSIA New Music for the 2023-2024 season. Besides the harp and classical music, Sunshine also plays the Chinese zither (Guzheng), and she is an active performer of traditional Chinese music and Irish/Celtic music. Sunshine is currently on faculty at the Greatbatch School of Music at Houghton University, Eastman Community Music School, and Kanack School of Musical Artistry. She also teaches secondary harp lessons at Eastman and maintains a private studio online where she teaches students from Asia and Europe.

Classes

Waypoint offers a variety of classes to help students navigate the musical world!

Large Ensembles

Each day, students will participate in a large brass ensemble. During this time, the students will sit beside their instructors while exploring a variety of arrangements and original works for brass instruments.

Chamber Music

Students will participate in small chamber ensembles. During this time, the students will rehearse in a brass trio, quartet, or quintet to develop their communication and interpretation skills. This is also a chance for students to explore repertoire composed for their instruments, while being coached by a staff member.

Group Lessons

Each day of camp, there is designated time for instrument-focused group lessons. During this time, the students will work with an instructor to learn and practice the fundamentals of their instrument. Students will also have time to ask questions and work on personal goals.

Crash Courses

Throughout the week students will have the chance to participate in crash courses. These classes will help establish a base of knowledge on various topics such as instrument maintenance, arranging, music history and more!!

Masterclasses

During a week of camp, Waypoint has three special guests share their expertise with our students. While the format often changes from guest to guest, these professionals often perform and work with students Infront of their peers.

Concert

At the end of the week, students will share what they have learned with a concert. All of the the chamber groups and the large ensemble participate. Family and friends are invited to attend and support their musicians.
