Operations Manager

Lauren Smit

Lauren is a graduate of Alma College where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Music, studying saxophone and piano, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in English. While in college, she performed with multiple groups, such as the Kiltie Marching Band, Alma Jazz Ensemble, and Alma Concert Bands. During this time, she also joined two academic honor societies, Sigma Tau Delta and Phi Beta Kappa, and received a Global Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish and English.

Currently, Lauren works as a writing instructor, specializing in K-12 and AP History, Spanish, and English courses. In her experience, it is beneficial for students to be exposed to different teaching methods to help them develop an understanding of their own learning style. She also believes it is important for students to be able to develop the skills to clearly communicate their ideas, both inside and outside the classroom.

Outside of work, Lauren volunteers as a grant writer, specializing in funding opportunities for fine arts organizations, and as a rowing coach for novice adult and high school rowers. She also enjoys traveling, baking, curling, and ringing handbells (as part of the Area 5 Handbell Musicians of America).
